At EMED, we believe the people who use our services should help shape them. We are proud to be part of Alzheimer’s Society Lived Experience forums and panels. These give people living with dementia, and their carers, the chance to share their insights directly with us.

Recently, we were invited to take part in a Lived Experience workshop in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. This morning, we sat on a panel that feeds lived experience learnings into the Dementia Programme Board in Leicestershire.

This is at the heart of our “We Listen, We Learn” approach. We are pleased to be increasing our engagement with charities, the voluntary sector and Healthwatch teams across the regions where we operate. By listening to what matters most, we can turn that feedback into practical changes.

Building Participation and Partnership

We are working with Healthwatch teams in specific regions to create patient participation groups. These groups make sure patient voices are heard in planning, problem-solving and decision-making.

We are also helping to develop signposting charters that improve how we identify and support people with dementia earlier in their journey. By improving comms between healthcare providers, carers and patient transport teams, we can make the experience more joined-up and supportive.

Recognising the Role of Patient Transport in Dementia Care

Patient transport plays a major part in the dementia journey. People living with dementia make up a large proportion of our service users. The transport environment can have a big impact on their comfort, dignity and wellbeing.

We are determined to make our services as inclusive and accessible as possible. That includes dementia awareness training for our staff, adapting processes to reduce stress and confusion, and making sure carers feel supported.

Our Determination to Improve

By building the voices of people with lived experience into everything we do, we are taking real steps towards delivering transport services that meet the needs of every passenger. Listening is only the start. Acting on what we hear is what makes change happen.
