EMED Community Care provides transport solutions for children entitled to free transport if they cannot walk to school because of their special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) or mobility problems. EMED offers a fleet of vehicles and highly trained, dedicated staff to cater to the requirements of parents, carers, and the young people who utilise its services.

EMED Group’s Specialist Transport

In response to the NHS’s Children and Young People’s Transformation Programme, EMED Group provides specialist medical SEND transport to improve the health and well-being of children and young people (CYP). EMED’s SEND services operate across many regions including Somerset, Wiltshire, Leicestershire, Surrey, Blyth and Leeds, where it continues to expand alongside the presence of EMED’s patient transport services.

EMED provides comfortable, well-equipped, and wheelchair-accessible transport suitable for the requirements of its service users. The two staff members operating each vehicle have been trained to HDU and FREC 3 standards, possessing the necessary skills, capability, and composure to effectively respond to and accommodate the high-risk situations associated with the conditions of CYP in EMED’s care. This includes administering the appropriate pre-prescribed medication and any necessary first aid during emergencies.

With an intensive ‘service initiation’ process, our new service users can be confident in EMED’s skillset, vehicles and overall service. This involves meeting the potential service user and their parents or guardians with the local council to assess the patient’s needs and EMED’s ability to meet them.

Service Success

In its Length of the School Week Guidance, The Department of Education set a minimum learning requirement of 32.5 hours a week to ensure pupils’ essential growth. This may be increased in specialist settings further to benefit the development of children with special needs.

EMED Community Care’s services enable CYP to attend school and to meet the target of around 1,267 hours annually needed for their social and academic progression. EMED’s success in providing SEND transport gives CYP struggling with a range of challenges normality, routine and safety from the moment they leave home for the start of the school day and on their return journeys.

EMED’s service users and their families are reassured that they will be in safe hands under its care by delivering a professional and specialised service… Professionalism helps overcome any anxieties associated with potential emergencies or difficulties in transit.

Alongside the reduced stress and peace of mind granted to service users and their families, EMED goes the extra mile to ensure CYP receive a consistent, reliable, personalised experience with support beyond their social and educational needs. Quite simply, EMED’s services help to improve the daily lives of these CYP and their families.

We are so happy with the team and their support for our daughter. Without your help, I just don’t know how we could get her into school.

SEND Parent

Just a quick note to thank your driver for the impact he’s making. He’s built a lovely rapport [with the child] and the parents have told us he’s even skipping out of the house to get on his mini-bus to school.
