At EMED Group, our Safe Care division plays a crucial role in ensuring service users receive the right care from the right people. A significant part of this involves supporting individuals who have been sectioned in the community, ensuring they are safely transported to a place of safety or a hospital bed for assessment.

With police forces across the UK stepping back from these responsibilities, Safe Care has stepped up to fill this critical gap. Our team ensures that service users are treated with dignity, compassion and understanding during what can often be a distressing time.

The positive feedback we receive highlights the incredible impact of this work. One powerful example comes from Hereford, where our Gloucester team provided exceptional support:

“The detained person had not left her house for five years and had not left her bedroom for the past six months due to severe anxiety. Understandably, she was mortified when told she had to go to hospital and was very distressed when the ambulance arrived. The crew, particularly a young female team member, was outstanding in building rapport and giving reassurance. Within 50 minutes, they persuaded the service user to transfer into a wheelchair and remain calm throughout the journey and arrival at the Unit. The service user told us in the assessment that going to hospital was her worst nightmare. I honestly believe that the crew was instrumental in empowering her to take the first steps to overcome her fear.”

This story exemplifies the dedication, skill and empathy of our Safe Care teams. By focusing on the needs of each individual, we not only ensure safe and effective transport but also help empower service users to take steps toward their recovery.

We are incredibly proud of the work our Safe Care division does every day to make a real difference in the lives of service users.
