Across EMED Group, our colleagues support patients and communities every day, often in challenging situations where professionalism, quick thinking and compassion make a real difference.
Here are just a few recent examples of colleagues going above and beyond across our services…
Acting quickly to support a distressed patient – Worcester
While preparing for their next patient at Worcester Royal Hospital, Adrian Newman and Mark Dean were approached by a distressed mother whose daughter was repeatedly collapsing with severe abdominal pain.
The crew acted quickly to prevent injury, safely loading the patient onto the ambulance and supporting both mother and daughter through the transfer and booking-in process at A&E.
Their care extended even further, taking the time to move the mother’s car to ensure her safety and peace of mind during a very stressful situation.
Exceptional care for a critically ill child – Swindon
Paul da Silva and Mike Willis received praise from an orthopaedic surgeon after transporting a critically ill one-year-old child.
Despite the challenging circumstances, the crew delivered exceptional care throughout the journey. Hospital staff were so impressed that they took the time to send a written thank-you recognising their professionalism and dedication.
Quick thinking in a life-saving moment – Burgess Hill
During her first week out of the classroom, Lottie Pilbrow noticed a patient slipping from her wheelchair and quickly realised the patient had stopped breathing.
Lottie immediately began CPR alongside a senior nurse until the crash team arrived. Her calm response, quick thinking and willingness to act demonstrated remarkable composure and compassion.
Supporting dignity at end of life – Kibworth
When another crew was struggling to move an end-of-life patient due to staffing pressures, Paul Fitzsimons and Mark Brown reassessed their own runs and volunteered to take over.
By reorganising their schedule they ensured the patient could be transferred with dignity and care, even arriving early while still managing the rest of their workload.
Compassion beyond the call of duty – Barnsley
While out on duty, Marc Coultas and Tracey Suffield stopped to help a woman they found on the ground on a cold evening.
They soon discovered she had been the victim of a serious crime. The crew arranged police support, stayed with her throughout the process of giving her statement and provided reassurance during a very difficult situation. Afterwards they ensured both the woman and her friend were safely transported to somewhere secure.
Thank you to colleagues across EMED
These moments are powerful reminders that patient care is not just about transport, it’s about compassion, professionalism, teamwork and doing the right thing when it matters most.
Across EMED Group, colleagues demonstrate these values every day and we’re incredibly proud of the difference they make to patients, families and communities.
