After more than three years with EMED, Mike Woodall is stepping into semi‑retirement.

Since joining in early 2022 as Chief Operating Officer, and more recently as Mobilisation Director, Mike has played a key role in shaping EMED’s direction and development. From supporting the merger of E‑zec and ERS to leading our mobilisation programmes in BOB and Frimley and Sussex, Mike has brought energy, clarity and a people-centred approach to everything he’s done.

As he gets ready to start a new chapter, we caught up with Mike to reflect on his time with the business and what he envisions for EMED’s future…

Key Moments That Stand Out
One of my early priorities was working with the team to strengthen our approach to service – making sure we always focus on finding a way to deliver for our patients. That shared commitment helped shape many of the positive developments that followed.

Bringing together E-zec and ERS into one cohesive business – now EMED – was a major milestone. The integration involved both systems and people and building trust across a newly unified leadership team was key. Supporting that journey and helping create one team culture was hugely rewarding.

I joined at a time when the business was preparing to grow and expand. Over the past few years, we’ve significantly increased our reach and capability. That’s down to a clear plan, a strong team, and a real focus on delivering well.

A real high point was overseeing one of the largest same-day service mobilisations in the private sector. It was a huge challenge and a huge achievement – a proud moment made possible by outstanding teamwork.

We also concentrated on establishing the right foundations, from systems to leadership, to support the business’s ongoing growth and success.

Proudest Moment
It has to be seeing EMED go from strength to strength. At the start, I wasn’t sure how quickly we’d get there, but through a values-driven approach, smart strategy and consistent focus, we did it. Seeing the business in such a strong position has been incredibly rewarding.

Reflections Over the Years
I’ve always been a people person – firm but fair, and clear on where we’re going. I truly believe our people are our greatest strength, and I’ve worked to make sure they stay at the heart of everything we do. Growth is important, but values and vision are what carry you through.

What’s Next for EMED
The foundations are in place for continued success. Holding onto the values that got us here – like putting people first and staying focused – will be key. EMED has a real opportunity to help shape the future of healthcare. I’d love to see the business continue to be a strong and respected voice in the sector.

On a Personal Note
I’ve learned that you can’t please everyone all the time, but you can always try. That applies to colleagues, clients and patients alike. I’m proud of the team and of the part I’ve played in their success. That’s what matters most to me.

What’s Next for Me
Semi‑retirement, but I’m not disappearing! I’ll be continuing to support others where I can, particularly through mentoring and coaching – something I’ve always loved. Cristina (my wife) says I missed my calling as a trainer, and she may be right. I’ll also be spending a bit more time on the golf course… but not too much.

As Mike takes a step back from full‑time work, we want to thank him for the drive, focus and care he’s brought to EMED over the past three years. His impact will be felt for a long time to come.

We wish him all the very best for the future and hope there’s plenty of time for mentoring, coaching and the occasional game of golf along the way.
