At EMED Group, we are incredibly proud of all our colleagues and the hard work they do every day. Our Shining Stars award scheme recognises those who go above and beyond, demonstrating excellence and truly living our values. For November, we are thrilled to celebrate the remarkable efforts of the following team members…

Elaine Mules and Gemma Gordon, Salisbury

Nominated by Nigel Grant

Elaine and Gemma demonstrated exceptional dedication when transporting a patient from Warminster Community Hospital to his home in Bradford-upon-Avon. On arrival, they discovered the patient’s electricity had been cut off, there was no food, and the house was in disarray. Faced with these challenging circumstances, they went above and beyond their roles by:

  • Purchasing essential groceries to ensure the patient had food.
  • Contacting the Housing Association to restore the electricity supply.
  • Showing compassion and resilience even when the patient was distressed and verbally abusive due to his vulnerable state.

Alan Dutton, Speke

Nominated by Mark Lloyd

On the day before the Christie Courier Services contract went live, Alan stepped in at short notice due to staff sickness. He quickly learned the new scanning system and delivered exceptional service on his route, all while:

  • Supporting the office with four new team members at the hospital site during Go Live Week.
  • Suggesting an idea to improve the hospital’s efficiency, which was implemented with great success.
  • Maintaining a positive attitude and providing invaluable support throughout a critical period.

Alan’s proactive approach and dedication made a significant impact, ensuring the success of the contract’s launch.

Scott Band and Ashley Grantham, Worcester

Nominated by Tamie Evans

Scott and Ashley exemplified compassion and teamwork when they transported a patient home after a long hospital stay. Upon arrival, they discovered the patient had no electricity or basic essentials. Their actions included:

  • Scott staying with the patient to provide comfort and reassurance during a difficult transition.
  • Ashley shopping for essential items to ensure the patient had the necessities to feel safe and secure at home.

Their holistic approach to patient care went beyond expectations, making a significant difference in the patient’s life. Their dedication to supporting patients in vulnerable situations truly embodies the spirit of EMED Group.

Chris Balsom, Regional Fleet Supervisor, West

Nominated by Steve Lovell, Shrewsbury

Chris Balsam is known for his exceptional leadership and unwavering support for the Shropshire team. His approachable nature and open-door policy have earned him the respect of staff at all levels. Road-based staff especially appreciate his presence and find it reassuring to interact with him regularly.

Chris’s commitment extends well beyond standard hours. On Sunday, November the 3rd, the shutter doors at the base malfunctioned just as the team was preparing for a busy week. Despite it being his rest day, Chris stepped in promptly to temporarily fix the issue, ensuring smooth operations on Monday, one of the busiest dates of the year.

His quick thinking and dedication prevented major service disruption, demonstrating his deep commitment to both his team and operational success. Chris’s willingness to go the extra mile truly sets him apart, making him an invaluable member of the team.

Ashley Robinson, Blyth

Nominated by Alan Robinson and Steven Brown

On Monday, the 25th of November, Ashley Robinson showed extraordinary courage and skill when she witnessed a vehicle incident on her way to work. An elderly gentleman had crashed his car due to cardiac issues. Alongside two off-duty nurses, Ashley used her training and a public access defibrillator to revive the gentleman, who was suffering from cardiac arrest.

Her quick action and calm under pressure not only saved his life but also demonstrated the impact of EMED’s training in real-world scenarios. After assisting in the life-saving effort, Ashley continued with her shift and even visited the hospital to check on the patient.

Ashley’s selflessness and dedication to helping others within her community truly embody the spirit of EMED Group. Her remarkable actions deserve the highest recognition.

Congratulations to Our November Shining Stars!

On being recognised as Shining Stars, individuals receive a gift voucher and a Shining Star certificate to commemorate their outstanding achievements. Additionally, all award recipients will be invited to a special annual event dedicated to celebrating their successes.
