EMED Safe Care launches its dedicated mental health secure transport service across Lancashire and South Cumbria tomorrow, 1 October, in partnership with Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust (LSCFT).
The service supports people who require specialist care while travelling. Teams take time to understand each person’s individual needs, preferences and communication requirements, helping to reduce distress and ensure every journey is as safe, dignified and comfortable as possible.
EMED Safe Care has been working alongside the local team and healthcare partners to prepare for a smooth transition.
The mobilisation has included the transfer of 11 colleagues to EMED through the TUPE process, alongside further recruitment to strengthen the local workforce. They are supported by EMED Safe Care’s national infrastructure, including specialist mental health booking agents, dispatch control and senior escalation support.
Least Restrictive Practice is central to how Safe Care works. Colleagues receive specialist mental health training, including PMVA, competencies relating to mechanical restraint and searching procedures and BILD-accredited training. This helps teams respond to individual needs while putting safety, dignity and compassionate care first.
Across the UK, EMED Safe Care completes more than 1,800 complex mental health patient journeys every month. With more than 50 bases and partnerships with over 70 NHS, local authority and private healthcare organisations, the service combines local delivery with the experience and resilience of a national network.
